You might have heard the saying, “tea is a hug in a mug.” This saying was almost definitely first uttered over a cup of camomile tea (or chamomile, depending on who you’re buying it from). The soft mellow flavours are the epitome of comfort. Today, I am absolutely delighted to announce that I’m reviewing Two Spoons Tea Camomile.
Get your warmest blanket out and put on Gilmore Girls. It’s about to cosy on the Immortal Wordsmith blog.

Opening the packet – which is totally plastic-free and biodegradable – the aroma from the camomile tea pillow is just as you’d expect from a high-quality tea. It’s strong and delicious with distinct notes of hay and honey.
Once brewed in 100°C water, I found this tea to have a sunny yellow shade with a hint of gold. There’s no dust lingering in the bottom of my cup so the texture is delightfully smooth and thick.
As for the flavour, I’m salivating just writing about it. It’s soft on your tongue with smooth, sweet and mellow hay notes. The aftertaste is rich and long-lasting, drenching your tongue and the back of your throat in thick honey.
This is how a camomile tea should be done. I am extremely impressed with the quality that Two Spoons Tea offer and I have no hesitation in strongly recommending this tea.
How to Brew Camomile Tea
Camomile is an herbal tea, so my recommendation is to simply pour over freshly boiled water and brew it to a strength that you like. Start with three minutes and go from there. You could even leave the teabag in the mug to continue to brew as you sip.
Unlike caffeinated tea from the Camellia sinensis plant (AKA your usual black tea or green tea), herbal teas give you a lot more leeway when it comes to length of brew. You’re unlikely to oversteep or draw out bitter notes.
Camomile has a natural sweetness but if you’d like to add a little extra, I think honey is a far better match than sugar. Don’t go overboard, however, as I find that too much sweetness can cancel out some of the calming effects of camomile before bed.
Why Two Spoons Tea?
Two Spoons Tea are a relatively new brand to me – this is only the second tea I’ve reviewed from them on the Immortal Wordsmith tea blog. They very kindly agreed to send me a box of samples and this camomile tea caught my eye this week.
Using the whole camomile flowers gives the tea more complexity and depth – something I noticed with Whittard’s Loose Leaf Chamomile too. Two Spoons Tea describe their tea as “a mellow, floral flavour with hints of apple and honey” and recommend it as a relaxing evening drink.
You can see from my photos that the tea is, in fact, made of whole chamomile flowers and I can attest to the delicious flavour as well. Another thing I admire about this brand is the tea sachets that they call pillows. These square tea sachets offer plenty of space for the herbal ingredients to swirl around as you brew. Better yet, they are totally biodegradable and can go straight in the food waste bin once you’re done brewing.
Summary
Ultimately, I have no qualms about recommending Two Spoons Tea Camomile. It has a delicious flavour, the ingredients are clearly high-quality, and the packaging is biodegradable. Unfortunately, at the time of writing you can only purchase Two Spoons Tea in the UK from either their official website (linked below) or one of their stockists. Sorry, international readers!
Tea Recommendation
Tea is versatile. If you happen to dislike the flavour of your chamomile tea (perhaps you were expecting a traditional floral flavour), whether it’s from Two Spoons or another brand, you don’t need to throw it away. You can hang herbal teabags in your cupboard as a natural air freshener or, my personal favourite, use them to take a DIY tea bath.
