I really REALLY enjoy fruits in desserts. If I have a choice of a luxury chocolate dessert and a simple but well-made apple pie, I will pick the apple pie every time. This why sipping through my fruit tea collection has been a pure joy. BOH Lemon with Mandarin is no exception.
This fruity black tea from one of Malaysia’s leading tea brands is delicious hot and cold, but I’ve reviewed it hot as directed. Find out what it tastes like and where it’s available to buy in my full review below.

This tea is at its best the second you rip open the wrapper. Notes of citrus zest and juice mingle with rich black tea and you can distinctly detect the sharpness of the lemon and fragrant sweetness of the mandarin. Wow. This is a promising start!
It brews quickly into a dark, peat brown tea liquid that’s murky and solid in colour. The citrus notes die a little in the hot water, but it’s not too bad. In the past, I’ve had some lemon flavoured teas turn into what can only be described as a toilet cleaner scent. Thankfully, that’s not happening here.
The flavour isn’t half bad. The black tea creates a smooth, full-bodied base but it doesn’t bring much flavour to the tea. Instead, there’s a pithy lemon note and hint of sweetness. It’s not juicy or fruity, but it’s definitely citrusy as it catches in the back of your throat as you swallow.
All in all, an okay cup of tea but it needs something a little extra to boost it…
How to Brew Citrus Black Teas
…that little extra happens to be a slice of lemon. I found that brewing according to BOH Tea’s instructions was about right. I used 100°C water and let the teabag steep for 3 minutes before tasting.
You don’t want to add milk to this tea, but a nice slice of lemon and teaspoon of honey really lift it up. It’s a nice refreshing cup of tea to have after a meal, but maybe avoid this tea in the evenings. Black tea can contain quite a bit of caffeine – enough to keep you up at night.
Why BOH Tea Seri Songket Collection?
I was lucky enough to receive BOH Lemon with Mandarin tea as part of the Seri Songket collection from BOH Tea Malaysia directly! They sent me a huge box of teas and I’ve been steadily working my way through them. I love the story behind these teas as well as the colourful packaging.
If we take a closer look at the tea inside the teabag, you can see the finely chopped Malaysian tea that BOH grow themselves (rather than outsource) plus little gems of lemon and mandarin peel. I believe there is lemon oils included in this tea as well.
BOH Tea are a reliable brand but aren’t usually seen on the shelves of British supermarkets as they’re a bit unknown in the UK. Luckily, they have a great online presence so you can find their teas, including BOH Lemon with Mandarin, on Amazon as well as their official website.
Summary
I certainly recommend giving this tea a try. If you find that you dislike fruity herbal type teas because they lack the oomph and body of your usual comforting black tea, then BOH Lemon with Mandarin will really hit the spot. I’ve found it available to buy separately on Amazon (button below) but you can also find it in the Seri Songket collection.
Tea Recommendation
