Naturaplan Organic Alpine Herbal Tea with Mallow Review

Naturaplan Organic Alpine Herbal Tea with Mallow Review

Naturaplan Alpine Herbal Tea with Mallow (or Naturaplan Herbal Infusion from the Alps with Mallow, if you translate it into English word-for-word) is a Swiss tea that’s made and sold in Switzerland. I was lucky enough to be sent a couple of tea bags to be reviewed for the blog.

It was a bit of a challenge working out the ingredients with Google translate, but I’m so glad I put in the effort! This is a very nice tea that you’ll enjoy drinking. I would even go so far as to say it’s superior to most British herbal blended teas.

Naturaplan Organic Alpine Herbal Tea with Mallow is the definition of fresh. Keep reading to find out (in English) what this tea is all about.

I reviewed this tea BEFORE I got a chance to research the ingredients, so I was going in blind! Ripping open the individually wrapped tea bag, I’m met with mixed green dried herbs. I picked out fresh and sweet notes instantly, with oregano and spearmint coming to mind. It reminded me most of mixed Greek or Cypriot herbs, as I enjoy cooking these cuisines.

It brews into a golden green cup of tea that’s slightly dusty. The texture when you sip it is very thick – it soothingly coats your throat.

The sweet-smelling tea (I’m getting notes of basil now too) has a delicious flavour. It’s sweet, grassy, and refreshing. Naturaplan Alpine Herbal Tea is a very good palate cleanser, and it even has a slight menthol property in the long-lasting aftertaste.

How to Brew Tea from the Alps

The tea brewing instructions were simple to work out without a translator. Brew 1 teabag in freshly boiled water for 2-5 minutes. I brewed for 3 minutes for reviewing purposes, as I wanted to get a good spectrum of flavours – usually, I prefer my teas quite light and subtle, so I would have stopped at 2 minutes.

A slice of lemon would go nicely in this tea. I didn’t feel like it needed any sugar, thanks to the naturally sweet herbs, but if you’ve got a sore throat then be kind to yourself and add a teaspoon of honey.

Why Naturaplan Swiss Herbal Teas?

Researching this tea has put my Google translate skills to the test! After researching the various blends that naturaplan sells, I’ve confirmed that I’ve got the Mallow version (labelled “mit malve”) as opposed to the plain version or lemon balm version.

All 4 ingredients in this blend are grown in Switzerland using organic agriculture, according to naturaplan. They’re not too finely chopped in the teabag either. The whole experience of drinking this tea indicates how fresh and healthy the ingredients are.

Mallow Health Benefits

40% of this tea is made up of mallow (Naturaplan doesn’t indicate what type of mallow, but it’s most likely to be common mallow) so that’s where the main health benefits will come from.

Health Benefits Times has an in-depth and interesting article about mallow, but the highlights are:

  • Great anti-inflammatory effects when applied topically and ingested,
  • Aids sleep and promotes calmness,
  • Increases mucus production throughout the respiratory system.

There are a few more health benefits listed, but these are the most likely to benefit you as we’re consuming the tea, instead of rubbing it onto our skin. Together, these benefits make it a FANTASTIC drink for anyone with a dry cough.

Increased mucus production helps you finally get it all off your chest, while the anti-inflammatory properties will soothe soreness in your throat and lungs, and finally, it will help you drift off to sleep with a calming sensation.

Summary

This is a tea that I highly recommend. The herbs are well-balanced, calming, and refreshing. Even after being shipped to the UK, I still found it to taste fresh and bright in the cup. I’ve found this tea available to buy from a Swiss website (the only place it seems to be written in English) called Coop. If you find any other places to buy it online with international shipping, please let me know so I can update this article!

Tea Recommendation

While a good cup of tea isn’t going to cure any ailments, they can be effective ways to soothe symptoms and deliver vitamins in general. For a different approach to medicinal and herbal teas, check out my review of Ayurveda Pura’s Ayurvedic Tea Collection.
