It took a little while but I finally got the pun in the name of this tea. Teakruthi Lemon Kandy is a sinfully delicious black tea that I adore at the moment. Teakruthi is fast becoming one of my favourite tea companies not just because of the quality of their teas (all single origin from Sri Lanka), but also the expertly blended flavours.
Lemon Kandy takes me back to a childhood of lemon drops and tongue sizzling sherbet. Without the calories, of course.
If you enjoy flavoured teas and want to know just how unbelievably good they can taste when a high-quality single origin base tea is used, keep reading. Teakruthi Lemon Kandy tea ticks all the right boxes.

Oh my. Ripping open the sleek black packet I’m swamped in delicious notes of lemon sherbet. It’s sour yet sugary and so reminiscent of lemony sweets from my childhood. It’s divine! There’s no real aroma coming from the black tea at this point.
It brews into a very clear, bright amber-gold colour that perfectly suits the flavour. Beautiful.
The warm black tea aroma finally peaks through once the tea has been brewed, with a hint of lemon chasing it with zesty notes.
The flavour is just wow. It’s so simple yet that somehow makes it better. It has a pleasant, warming black tea body. Light and bright without being sharp or floral like Darjeeling. Hints of lemon swirl in the aftertaste, making this tea both energising and refreshing with every sip.
How to Brew Lemon Black Tea
I used 90°C water and brewed 2 generous teaspoons for 3 full minutes. You don’t want to drink this with milk, so keep your brew time short and sweet.
Teakruthi have some additional brewing tips on their site and suggest that this would make a wonderful iced tea. I quite agree. Lemon black tea is one of the best iced tea flavours.
You can re-steep the leaves, so don’t throw them away. 2 steeps were good for me – I couldn’t get 3 out of them as Teakruthi suggest.
Why Teakruthi Sri Lanka?
This orange pekoe grade tea is from the Kandy district in Sri Lanka where it’s blended with zesty lemon peel and marigold petals to add a bright pop of colour. That alone tells you a lot about the company – they are proud of their single origin teas and love to tell you about their beautiful country!
Furthermore, Teakruthi use a ‘made to order’ type business model. They buy their tea fresh in batches to meet demand, rather than bulk buying tea from farmers and storing it in warehouses to slowly go stale.
Leaf quality is excellent, I am impressed by the number of organic and ethical certifications it has, and the flavour just blows me away. If you love lemon tea, you are going to have your mind blown by this black tea blend too.
Summary
A simply perfect and perfectly simple tea. Try it now by ordering from Teakruthi directly. They ship worldwide and they have a tempting subscription service so you can get this tea delivered to your door on a schedule.
